Meet the SandScript 2023 Editorial Staff
Editor-in-Chief
Raiden Lopez has been the Editor -In- Chief of SandScript for the past 3 editions and has already started living her dream of being an editor. She is a fierce leader in any environment that she is in. She is a single mom and does the impossible every day, all to inspire her son and others to follow their passions. With plans to transfer to the U of A for her bachelors in Creative Writing in the Spring of 2024 she will be a known editor and publicist one day.
Assistant Editor
Mackenzie Dougherty is an aspiring author and editor. Currently, she is majoring in English but wishes to transfer to a university to focus on creative writing as soon as she is done here at PCC. She spends her free time writing, watching movies, and saving up to travel the world! Her go-to genre is fantasy but she tries to not judge a book by its cover (though a pretty cover is always a plus).
Managing Editor
Katie Murray is a Biology major at Pima Community College. She will be transferring to The University of Arizona next fall, where she will continue her biology undergraduate with an emphasis on biomedical sciences. Her career goal is to be a veterinarian, but she has a special interest in minimizing disparities between marginalized communities and spends one Sunday a month giving free veterinary care to the pets of the homeless and low income population of Tucson.
Co-Industry Outreach and Social Media Manager
A prolific media producer, writer, and serial entrepreneur, bibliophile David Mutschler currently attends classes and lives in Tucson Arizona where he is currently working on a novel and himself.
Hopefully they both end well.
Co-Industry Outreach and Social Media Manager
Alycia Ruffin is an aspiring artist and designer taking the opportunity to learn more of the publishing world for her career. She is a current student at PCC with plans to transfer to Otis College of Arts and Design (or ASU.) She's currently working towards being an Art Director for the comic industry! A Nightwing film finally?
Poetry Editor
Chronically tired, chronically ill, chronically obsessed. Long naps, late nights, binge-reading poetry. Dysfunctionally functional, disco-funk city-pop cottage-core defunct vibes. An abandoned theme park carousel calliope whistling out of tune.
Visual Arts Editor
Damian Cecala is the Visual Arts editor and is famously known for his completely unbiased and superb opinions in literary arts. Despite this, he stays remarkably humble about it all.
Prose Editor
He wakes up every morning with a sigh and a constant thought of why. He struggles with making the decision to get out of bed, and due to this indecision he doesn’t ever have enough time to eat. He speeds down dark highways towards his job. After work he watches old reruns while being lit only by the blue light of the tv.
Graphic Designs Expert
Brandon Robles Is an International Student from Mexico, seeking to inspire and interest people with his designs, while getting inspired himself through other’s art. He is always learning through life experiences. Brandon is thankful to SandScript’s amazing team for entrusting him with the look of this amazing magazine for the second time.
Faculty Advisor
Mariah Young teaches English and creative writing at Pima. Her short story collection Masha’allah and Other Stories (Heyday, 2012) won the California Book Award for first fiction and the James D Houston Award for Short Fiction. In theory she’s working on a novel, but between teaching and having a toddler, she mostly has time for flash fiction, zines, and emails. She spends way too much time at her computer and prefers to be outside, with her family, and with a pen and paper and a cup of coffee.
