FAQ for Contributors
Who can submit work to SandScript?
Sandscript considers submissions from currently enrolled Pima students. To submit work for consideration for SandScript 2024, you must be enrolled in least one class during any of the following semesters: Summer 23, Fall 23, or Spring 24.
Student employees of the college (tutors, student workers, federal work-study employees, etc.) are eligible and encouraged to submit their work.
We do not accept submissions from Pima students who are no longer taking classes at this time. Submissions are not accepted from full- or part-time faculty or full-time employees; please note that Cababi, SandScript’s sister publication, is dedicated to publishing the art and writing of Pima staff and employees.
What email should I use to email SandScript?
You can use any email you'd like: personal, professional, or your Pima email. Please make sure to pick an email you check regularly, as this will be how the SandScript editorial staff reaches out to alert you of acceptances, work with you on edits, and any other questions the staff might have.
Can I use a pseudonym/nickname/pen name?
Yes! In your initial submission email, please put the name you would like to go by. If you change your mind about your name, please email the SandScript staff after you receive your acceptance letter so that we may update your name. The name you provide us in your initial email and any emails after will be how your name is presented with your accepted pieces in the magazine and in your Contributor Bio. Any name changes sent after April 1st will not be updated due to printing constraints.
Does SandScript accept previously published work?
No. All work must be unpublished to be considered for SandScript.
Does SandScript accept simultaneous submissions?
No. We do not accept simultaneous submissions.
When will I know if my work was accepted for publication?
Submissions are accepted for SandScript 2024 starting September 15, 2023.
Submissions for SandScript 2024 are open only to currently enrolled Pima students (enrolled during any of the Summer 23, Fall 23, or Spring 24 semesters, and taking at least one class during the 23-24 academic year).
The reading period for SandScript 2024 begins in January 2024. All submissions will be reviewed and selected by the SandScript staff of WRT 162, Literary Magazine Workshop. The class is responsible for the entire process, from seeking submissions, curating the magazine, to the final product launch of the print and digital editions of the magazine.
The SandScript staff will reach out to artists and authors in April 2024 regarding the status of their submission, and give notice of acceptances and publication in the print edition or the expanded digital edition. Also, if needed, genre editors may reach out to contributors via email to work closely on any edits that may be needed prior to publication.
